About

Hello There,

I am Aparna. What follows is a long write-up, so pull a chair and grab a cushion. A cup of tea (Coffee) will definitely make the reading easier.

FOOD - I am not really genetically inclined to it. I was one fussy eater. (I still am at times).
During my growing up years, any food kept in front of me was never relished immediately. I would keep looking at it, we would have our introductions, slowly get to know each other and then I would toy with the idea of offering it to my brothers (who like all the brothers in world will never be available to help when we actually need them) and then a warning call from my mom will see me slowly touching the food. Do not say it. I know, it is very annoying. Whoa!! What a confession to make on the about page of a food blog.

As I grew up, the whole process got a little shorter, but that was because I followed the “No talking to strangers” policy when it came to food. Dal, curd and potatoes became my best friends.
Things changed after I got married. Food was a family member here. At the breakfast table, suggestions for lunch and dinner were made. During lunch, suggestions for the next breakfast was invited. I was lost. When the questions were directed at me, my answer always was 'anything'...I was not being rude, that was all I wanted. Food was something that kept me alive. Period.
Over the years, I have changed quite a bit. I do talk to strangers now, but still stay away from weird looking ones. Hey, don't judge. That's about as adventurous I can get.

About the blog:

Of all the things in the whole wide world, I chose to write about food is what surprised my brothers and cousins.
I was born in Mahe, a small sleepy coastal town in North Kerala. My summer vacations were spent here at my Ammamma's place. For me, Food now is more about memories. The curry that we used to like as kids, the flavor that still lingers in your mouth and the story that invariably unfolds every time that dish is served is what all this blog is about. This is also to show others (especially my brothers) that my kitchen is actually in use and God above did not just send me dinner. Now, I should mention that the frequency of the posts on the blog is not proportional to the kitchen usage.

I spend quite some time researching on a recipe before I actually make it. I go through few recipes (Google, obviously), and then finally do a mix and match of all the recipes and then go ahead and make my own. There have been many disasters and then some were finger licking good. Most of the times, I do not get a chance to repeat the good ones because I never noted it down. The ingredient list was what I thought was right at that particular time. I am hoping this blog will help me handle this issue. ( Update : It so did not handle this issue. I have a few fail proof recipes that is reserved for when I have guests. So, if you stay longer, you have to get adventurous and be open to eat whatever is served. Come on, now!! What's life without a few ups and downs.)

All the people who have been here a while know the rules. For the rest, here it goes.

Most of the recipes here are (will be) borrowed from my aunts and other family members. If the recipe is from any other source, I will credit the source.

A lot (I repeat, a lot) of work goes in to all these things that you see on this blog. So if there is anything that you want to use, just ask. I will be more than willing to oblige. Well, depends on my mood though. But you can always try asking.

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through my blog.

Love,
Aparna.
