Erachi Pattichu Varathathu / Beef Fry - Kerala Style
Ingredients :
Beef - 500 gms ( Any red meat)
Chilli Powder - 1 Dessert spoon
Coriander Powder - 1 Dessert spoon
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
Garlic cloves - 6-8
Aniseed / Saunf - 1/2 tsp
Cloves - 2
Cinnamon - 1 inch piece - 1
Vinegar - 1 Dessert spoon
Ginger - chopped - 1/2 tsp
Salt
Hot Water - 2 cups
Potatoes ( Small) - 2 - diced
Garlic cloves - 1 tsp
Seasoning :
Coconut Oil - 2 Dessert spoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Button Onions - 2 Dessert spoon - Sliced
Method :
1. Wash and clean the meat. Cut into cubes.
2. Grind the 6-8 garlic cloves, Aniseed, cloves and cinnamon into a paste.
3. Marinate the meat with the ground paste, Chilli powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder, pepper powder, Vinegar, chopped ginger and salt. Keep aside for an hour.
4. Cook the meat in 2 cups of hot water. Cover the pan and cook.
5. When the meat is tender, add the diced potatoes and garlic.
6. Remove from fire when the potato is cooked and gravy has thickened.
7. In another pan, heat coconut oil. Splutter mustard seeds. Then add button onions.
8. When the button onions are browned, add the meat.
9. Fry the meat till dry.
10. When the masala leaves the sides of the pan, remove from fire.
11. Serve hot.

The recipe calls for the meat to be dry fried. So, do not go by the picture. I stopped midway of the dry frying process. I was in the mood for moist tender curry than a dry fry.
