Mocha Kottai Kuzhambu

Ingredients :


Mocha Kottai / Field Beans - Fresh Beans - 1 cup
Onion - 1 - chopped fine
Tomato - 1 - chopped fine
Garlic - 5-6 pods
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Brinjal - 2 - Cut into long
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp

Grind Together :


Oil - 1 tsp
Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
Clove - 2
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Grated Coconut - 3 Tbsp
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder - 2 tsp

Heat Oil in a pan. Add the above mentioned ingredients and roast them till the flavors come out.
Grind them into a fine paste. Keep aside.

 

Tempering :


Sesame Oil - 2 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 spring


Method :


1. Pressure cook the beans for 3-4 whistles until they are cooked and soft.
2. Heat Sesame oil in a pan. Add the items listed under tempering.
3. Add the onions. Saute for few minutes till the onions sweat. Add crushed ginger and garlic and saute well till the raw smell disappears.
4. Add the tomatoes, brinjal and turmeric powder. Saute well for a few minutes.
5. Add the ground masala and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Then add water and cook till the brinjal is cooked.
6. Once done, add the cooked beans and cook till the gravy thickens.
7. Serve hot with rice or roti.
